Tootsie Musical - The Most Important Night (Pit Drum Cam)
Here's a fun song from Tootsie Musical. I was the 3rd drummer for this show and only did two shows...one after the premier week and the last one (7 months between). So I had a lot of prepping to do and was still relying heavily on drum charts. I hope you like it and please subscribe channel for more videos.

Jamming with Mark Lettieri Loops

I found these great loops from the Logic Pro loop library, played by Mark Lettieri. This was my first time jamming with these, so there's some fresh improvisation going on. You will hear some David Garibaldi / James Brown-inspired drum beats :) Go check out Mark Lettieri's stuff with his own band and The Fearless Flyers, great stuff! Fast RLK Drum Fill

Here's a fill inspired by Steve Jordan's playing on The Blues Brothers Going Back To Miami. At the end part, I played my version of Steve's fill, it's not 100% accurate...Try to play 1/4 hi-hat with your left foot to get some independence going :) The audio is from my UAD Apollo x8p headphone output to the Canon M6ii camera mic input, added with a little bit of EQ and compression. Basic drum beat from slow to medium fast

Here's a good exercise for everybody. Play with the click and try to nail every tempo with the same sound and volume (2 minutes each). It's interesting to see my different stick heights and movements when the tempo gets faster. I usually accent the hi-hat in different ways depending on the tempo but this time I tried to keep the accents similar. I recorded these loops for a customer and after t...

Kick, Snare & Hat...That's the name of the game :) When Will You Be Mine is from AWB's Feel No Fret album (1979) and features my drum hero Steve Ferrone. Hi Kai, may I ask you how long a professional drummer like you has to rehearse this song from getting the unknown score to become ready for playing it live? About a month, like me? 😝

    • @KaitsuDrums
      @KaitsuDrums 6 днів тому

      Hi! It takes maybe a couple of days, depending how hard it is. I can sightread pretty well, so if the charts are great, then it's a pretty fast process...but if the charts aren't good, then I have to listen to the different recordings and make my own marks to charts about the grooves, fills etc. Of course, sometimes there are these "combined charts", which means that they have both drumkit and different percussion instruments. Then I have to think the stick changes and make a choreography to play everything written. So these types of gigs need more work, programming sounds etc... I played Mary Poppins musical a couple of years ago which had a lot of percussion and I had 3 different note stands + charts around the kit. The next musical will be Matilda in 3 months, also a combined percussion book with drumkit and other percussion. I hope this answered to your question and happy drumming!

    This is just perfect! A dream! You are a true gourmet when it comes to gear! Never seen anything like this in one room! The drum gear, the Apollos, the Audient, the Coles, the D12....omg, mate! Candystoe! ...Tried the "Moses-Schneider-Wurst" myself... useful for the heavier, punky stuff. The cheaper the mic the better it was in the mix. Always good to have options. Love your playing!

    The drum intro is classic for all whom were listened to the Spin Doctors debut album, but what surprises me is the almost identical drum sound.. I don't know "how deep" this guy went (sampling, because there is enough "meat to cook".. ) , but I think its snare and kick generic sound and correctly recorded properly tuned snare..Maybe two snare mics (upper and lower mic, like SM57x2) and good ears for proper results..On the other hand, it is possible that this sound is recorded with minimal equipment.. Anyway, great job mate 🥁

    Amazing sounding kit. I hope you got some free drum heads out of this. I'm a coated Emperor top guy. On my Tama kit they sound the best to my ears. On my vintage vistalite kit (yes for looks not so much for sound) I'm using clear pinstripes, but since watching your amazing video I'm switching to clear emperors. Thank you so much for this great comparison. P.S. What is this tune bot you speak of??

    • @KaitsuDrums
      @KaitsuDrums Місяць тому

      I like 21" K Sweet a little bit more than 23" K Sweet. Maybe my 23" is a little bit too light for my taste and I have heard a little heavier version of that.

      @@KaitsuDrumsThat’s how I feel about my 21” and 23” K Sweet Rides! I prefer the 21” overall. Best overtones when crash riding and bell. But the 23” has slightly better stick definition. Was curious to see what your POV was and thankful that we share the same thoughts!

    They all sound good, they all sound different. But what is important is not what the drummer prefers. As different as they sound, they will all have exactly the same effect on the listener. So it does not matter one whit which you decide to use, regardless of genre, regardless of style, bc the only thing that is important is what the listener hears and responds to. They will not hear the difference, even though there is a difference. They will not respond differently to one over the other. This is a splitting of hairs that does not need to be considered, bc the outcome, the effect on the listener, will be the same, regardless. They just could not give two shits about this, even though drummers typically do. And any of them can be EQ-ed, enveloped, and compressed to sound pretty much like any of the others, anyway.

    • @KaitsuDrums
      @KaitsuDrums Місяць тому

      Different cymbals inspire different playing and when doing live gigs, the volume is also one factor and you can't eq/compress as well as in the studio.
